About

How do I blog? I have no idea what I'm doing. This is so confusing. And now I sound like a forty-year-old mother who just discovered the Internet. I assure you, I am not. My name is Jayda and I'm a junior in high school, but that's all the personal information you're getting out of me until I later accidentally slip up and say something else that will narrow the search for all of my bored stalkers. I'm here because my fantastic Lang teacher made the class start blogs to use for our twenty percent projects. Thanks, Yanes.

If you're wondering, a twenty percent project uses twenty percent of your time (a.k.a. one class period a school week) to work on any project that you feel is important, as long as it's beneficial in some way. For my fascinating project, I'm writing a historical fiction novel in the hopes it will educate the depraved masses on the relevance of history and French. I'm writing it because I think the education system needs help in maintaining a balance of emphasis on all subjects, and not just science and math, which seem to get most of the love. I will be strengthening my writing skills by doing so as well as teaching history and using French.

About the Project
The novel is currently under the working title The Rose of No-Man's Land. I'll explain that after summarizing the plot. Basically, it takes place during World War I, a time when women were first allowed to take large part in the war. The story follows Elsie Hudson, a young woman from Virginia, on her journey from closet suffragette to 'Hello Girl' in the military and Red Cross nurse in the infirmaries in France. She meets people and saves lives in both the small and large scale. But I can't give any more away for now.

The title "The Rose of No-Man's Land", comes from a song written in 1917. It describes the impact of the Red Cross nurses, both physically and mentally. This will apply to Elsie for a number of reasons, the most obvious one being for her time spent as a Red Cross nurse.

About Me
I suppose I'm expected to talk a little bit about myself. I like books, both reading them and writing them. My best friend is Netflix and we see each other almost every day. I'm really into Supernatural at the moment, but I'm into those other nerd shows like Sherlock, Once Upon a Time, Merlin, and Sleepy Hollow. I don't necessarily have a favorite book but if I had to pick I would probably say The Book Thief by Markus Zusakwhich somewhat inspired me to write this, and the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan, which is intended for twelve-year-olds.

For someone who doesn't know how to blog, I did pretty well for the introduction. So I'll be keeping you updated on the progress and struggle of writing a novel, maybe throw in a couple tips and tidbits from time to time. Thanks if you read this. Thanks if you keep reading after you read this.
